Rock Concert Tragedy

A Funky Rock News Presentation

Perhaps the worst rock concert tragedy ever has struck at a rock concert in W. Warwick, Rhode Island. A fiery inferno burned a nightclub to the ground. The body count is still rising.

NightClub Burned Down
On Thursday, Feb 20, 2003, fire engulfed a nightclub, The Station, in Rhode Island, leaving 97 dead. Two hunderd more were injured, about 35 of them critically. Heavy metal hair-band Great White was headlining the show when the fire started. Among the dead is Great White guitarist Ty Longley.
The fire was apparently the result of the use of pyrotechnics that was part of the show.
It is unclear at this time whether or not the band had permission to use this fiery display. Attorneys for the club stated that owners of the club knew nothing about the bands intention to use pyrotechnics. Great Whites lead singer and frontman, Jack Russell, said owners were informed about and approved the pyrotechnics. Authorities say legal action is pending and charges may be filed.

Great White, along with singer Jack russell, is best known for their hit single "Once Bitten, Twice Shy."
